Island Hopper Hotel has a fleet of compact luxury SUVs selected with your comfort and safety in mind. Having a vehicle on Kosrae provides the perfect way to explore the island and reach your destinations on your schedule. We'll be at the airport to meet you with your car rental upon arrival. We'll help you complete our car rental agreement form, hand you your keys, and help make sure you are good to go. When it's time to depart, simply return it to the airport with ease. At the hotel, we have worry-free parking.
What to know about driving in Kosrae:
- We drive on the right side of the road.
- US issued and International driver's licenses are acceptable
- You can get a cool Kosrae State driver's license at the police station for $12.00 (no test required with a valid license)
- There are many pot-holes that cars will swerve into the opposite lane to avoid so just be cautious and drive slowly
- Most cars are right-hand drive, but we do offer one vehicle with left-hand drive that can be requested.
- The speed limit in most places is 25mph / 40kph
- The main road is paved, but the farm roads are dirt which can be hard to pass during times of heavy rain.
- Fuel costs $5.75 to $6.00 per gallon as of early 2023.
